Sour and Spicy Beef with Rice Cakes, a perfect combination of sourness, spiciness, saltiness, and umami. It goes well with rice or noodles.

[Serves 4]

225g Sliced Beef Roll

2 cups bamboo shoots or any vegetables you like

2 red chillies, cut into pieces

2 green chillies, cut into pieces

2tbsp Yellow chilli sauce, you can buy it from any Asian supermarket

1 cup rice cake

2 tbsp Mirin

2 tbsp Sake

1 tbsp white vinegar

1 tbsp sugar

2 tsp chicken powder

6 garlic cloves, minced

5g ginger, minced

5g dried chilli

1.Put the bamboo shoots/vegetables and rice cakes into boiling water and blanch them. The blanching time depends on the type of vegetables you choose. When the rice cakes float to the surface, remove them from the water and set aside.

2.Cut the beef slices in half for better flavor absorption.

3.Blanch the beef slices in boiling water until they change color, then remove them.

4.Heat the wok with oil and stir-fry garlic, ginger, yellow chili sauce, and dried chili for one minute.

5.Add 725ml water (or broth for better flavor) and sugar.

6.Put the bamboo shoots/vegetables and rice cakes into the soup and cook for 3 minutes (1 minute for green leafy vegetables), then remove and place them in a large bowl.

7.Put the beef slices into the soup and cook for three minutes, then remove them and place them on top of the vegetables in the bowl.

8.Pour the soup evenly over the beef slices.

9.Add garlic, red and green chili peppers on top of the beef slices.

10,Drizzle hot oil over the dish and sprinkle with sesame seeds. Serve with rice or noodles.
